Abstract

Nomophobia refers to the anxiety or dependence experienced by an
individual regarding smartphone usage. Psychological factors, such as low selfesteem, can influence an individual's susceptibility to nomophobia. The social support received by an individual is predicted to affect the level of nomophobia through the mediating role of self-esteem. This study aims to examine the effect of social support on nomophobia, with self-esteem as a mediator that might influence
this relationship. The study utilized a non-experimental quantitative approach with 192 participants aged between 17 to 24 years. Research instruments included the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Rosenberg's Selfesteem Scale, and the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMPQ-10). Data analysis employed the mediation multiple regression method using the Process tool by Hayes. The results indicated a significant negative relationship between social support and nomophobia. However, the relationship between social support and nomophobia did not occur through the mediating role of self-esteem.
