Abstract

Teacher is someone who will be a central in teaching learning process especially in classroom teaching. However, teachers also have a duty as academic advisory. Academic advisor is a member of an academy who gives report information relating to the development of their students. Besides, academic advisor helps the students to solve the personal matter faced by students. Based on the fact, the writer wants to know the students’ expectations on teacher’s role as an academic advisor. The purposes of the study are to find out the students’ expectations on the teacher’s role as an academic advisor. The result of this study will give feedback to the teacher’s roles in academic advising and expected to bridge a gap between the students’ expectations on the teacher’s role as an academic advisor and the teacher’s behaviors is possible to minimize mismatch between the students’ expectations and the teacher’s activities. The research design used descriptive quantitative. The writer uses simple random sampling because it is to give the same opportunity to every members of population to be selected as sample. The sample is 51 students (it is 20 % of 258 of the total population numbers). The writer uses closed ended questionnaire consists of 20 items. Examining to the students’ answer, scoring the questionnaire and drawing conclusion are the steps of data analysis. Based on the research finding, the writer concludes that the students’ expect the teacher’s role in academic advisory as facilitator (590.43) although some students also expect as information giver (550.97). So, as a good academic advisor, she should know when she has to switch his role in line with Department policies and students’ academic ability.
