Abstract

The present study was to collect information on the use of visual aids in teaching learning process at SDN Kertasada Kalianget Kabupaten Sumenep. The problems that were investigated in this study were (1) What are the kinds of visual aids in English teaching learning process in SDN Kertsada Kalianget Kabupaten Sumenep, (2) What are the teaching ways by using the visual aids in the English teaching learning process at SDN Kertasada Kalianget Kabupaten Sumenep, (3) What are the students’ attitudes toward the use of visual aids in the English teaching learning process at SDN Kertasada Kalianget Kabupaten Sumenep. The purposes of this study was to describe (1) The kinds of visual aids in the English teaching learning process in SDN Kertasada Kalianget Kabupaten Sumenep, (2) The teaching ways by using the visual aids in the English teaching learning process in SDN Kertasada Kalianget Kabupaten Sumenep, (3) the students’ attitudes toward the use of visual aids in the English teaching learning process in SDN Kertasada Kalianget Kabupaten Sumenep. The population and sample of this study were one English teacher and 76 students of the fifth and sixth year of SDN Kertasada Kalioanget Kabupaten Sumenep. The instruments used to collect the data were interview, for the teacher, students’ questionnaire, and observation. The interview was used to collect the data about the kinds of visual aids used by the teacher. The rating scale was used to collect the data about the students’ attitudes toward the use of visual aids. The observation was used to collect the data about the teaching activities by using visual aids. The teacher often used visual aids because visual aids were very effective and helpful for her. She used picture, flashcards, real object and stick figure with the reasons that they were interesting and easy to produce. Based on the result of the data analysis, the researcher found that 56 students (76,32%) have very high attitude toward the use of visual aids; 18 students (21,05%) have high attitude; 2 students (2,63%) have average attitude. The common result shows that the students’ attitude toward the use of visual aids is very high because the mean of all scores is 85,21. From the statements above, it can be concluded that visual aids had very important role in the teaching and learning process. Besides, students’ attitudes toward the use of visual aids were very high. Therefore, visual aids must be used in order to support the teaching learning process.
