Abstract

Hydroquinone is an active compound that is able to control pigment production, which functions to reduce or inhibit the formation of skin melanin. This is why hydroquinone is often used as a bleach in creams. In this study, hydroquinone levels were analyzed in whitening creams circulating in online stores using the spectrophotometric method.
This research aims to determine the amount of hydroquinone contained in night cream circulating in online shops.
The research method used was chosen descriptively. This research was carried out at the Integrated Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang over a period of 3 months.
The results of this research prove that of the 25 samples used, 18 samples were positive for containing Hydroquinone, but there were 16 samples whose use exceeded the limit set by BPOM, namely not exceeding 2%. Hydroquinone levels in night creams circulating in online stores used in this study ranged from 1.31% - 3.93%.
