Abstract

Most challenging aspect of writing is finding something to write about. Students need a plan before they start to write. The purpose of analytical exposition is to expose or persuade reader that there is a case need to be concerned. Clustering is a kind of brainstorming techniques that is used to generate ideas as a writing plan before they start to write. The objective of clustering technique for writing is to compose a paragraph in order. Thus, the purpose of this study were: (1) to know how the eleventh grade students use clustering technique in writing analytical exposition text, and (2) to know the result of clustering technique in studentsÂ’ writing scores. The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were 30 students in eleventh grade at MA Sunan Giri Pasuruan. Meanwhile, the instruments used were observation, interview, and test. The data was analyzed descriptively. The findings are summarized from the three meetings in writing class. The topic that are given in three meetings are disadvantages of using facebook, cars should be banned from the city, and advanced in health. The teacher and the students made clustering model together before the students composed a paragraph so that they had the same clustering. The teacher gave the scores to the students based on the five criteria like content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. The minimum standard score in every lesson for Senior High School was 75. The average scores in the three meetings were 68,68, and 70. In conclusion, clustering technique helps students in writing subject. The students can compose a paragraph in limited time and feel enjoy in writing class.
