Abstract

Literature speaks universally and effects for the lovers. Ideas, feeling, opinions, spirits, beliefs, experience and all human mental activities can be found in studying literature. It makes literature become interesting to be a subject. As one of literary works, film may used as an interesting object of study too. It is the model of behaviors that actually influences the behavior, feeling, and values of audience in the real life as the lesson. Those are the reason why analyze literary, especially film, is proper for a thesis writer. This study focuses on myths faced by Anna Brady as American woman traveler to Ireland in Annan Tucker film “Leap Year”. There are three statement of problem in this study. Those are: (1) What are the myths faced by Anna Brady as the American woman traveler to Ireland in Anan Tucker film “Leap Year”? (2) What is the type of the myths faced by Anna Brady as the American woman traveler to Ireland in Anan Tucker film “Leap Year”? (3) How did she solve the Ireland myths in Anan Tucker film “Leap Year”? This study uses descriptive qualitative research design because it finds out the myths faced by Anna Brady as American woman traveler to Ireland in Anan Tucker’s film “Leap Year”. Thus, mimetic approach is used in this study because the writer analyzes myth faced by Anna Brady as American woman traveler to Ireland then finds and proves the finding which was presented in the film by the author. The finding of the analysis shows that Anna Brady faced four myths in her travel to Ireland. They are; (1) married proposal (leap day), (2) bad lucky day of Friday, 3) lucky day of Sunday, and (4) black cat myth. The other findings are about the three type of myth. They are; (1) life-crisis myth shows in married proposal, (2) hunting and agricultural myth shows in black cat myth, and (3) cosmological myth shows in Friday as bad lucky day and Sunday as lucky day. The last finding about the way Anna Brady faced the myths. It shows that she was not easily following the myths. She had some steps: 1) not following the myths, 2) thinking about leap year and about her father’s advice to go to Dublin, Ireland, 3) trying to find information; article and video about leap year in internet, 4) following leap year.
