Abstract

A Digital Native is a person who understands the value of digital native technology and use this to seek out opportunities, for implementing it. Todays, many teachers still Digital Immigrant, they are using manual thing in daily life. At the same time, their students are digital native. It is very contrast between Digital native and Digital immigrant. In this case, the teachers must understand what their students’ want because the digitals’ life is very different from immigrants’ life. They were felt difficult to face Digital Native students. So, this research wants to investigate the “Teachers’ need to teach digital native students at Malang”. This study used descriptive qualitative research to describe about the current status of problem that faced by the teacher and to get information what are the needs of Junior High School English teachers in teaching digital native students. The research subject are five teachers,but two teachers could not participate as research subject because they had to fulfill call of duty from their headmaster . Teacher A was from SMPN 1 Batu, teacher B was from SMPN 5 Kepanjen and teacher C was from SMPN 2 Kepanjen. The teachers were the informant and the data were collected from them. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the teachers should face their Digital Native students, especially in English subject. The needs that the teachers have to aquire are; First, the need of teching method which is appropriate with digital native characteristic is partnering pedagogy, partnering will create interactive teaching. Second, the teaching purpose that are needed by the teacher are making interactive teaching and increase speaking ability. Third, the teaching media that are needed by the teachers are multimedia laboratory, LCD, and computer. The next, the teachers’ need is material in teaching English which is appropriate with current curriculum. The last, the need of evaluation that are needed by the teacher in teaching English is objective based evaluation and evaluation with technology media
