Abstract

Literature may become an interesting subject because the readers can understand and imagine what the author said. Through studying literature, we can get enjoyment, delight, and satisfaction. Film is one of literary works that is taken as the object of the study. It is because films illustrates the real life, includes conflicts, problems, and other aspects of life. Film as one of literary works gives not only pleasure to its audiences but also a valuable lesson and information about people and life. Those are the points why it is strongly interesting to analyze literature, especially film. This study focuses on Christine Collins’s struggle to find her son in Clint Eastwood’s Film “Changeling”. There are two statement of problems in this study. Those are: (1) What are Christine Collins’s struggles to find her son?, (2) What is the result of Christine Collins’s struggle to find her son?. This study is conducted by using descriptive qualitative research design. This study uses descriptive qualitative research because it is intended to find out the concerning experiences of Christine Collins who struggles to find her missing son in Clint Eastwood’s film “Changeling”. Moreover, objective approach is used in this study because the writer wants to analyze Christine’s struggle to find her son without studying Clint Eastwood’s background of life as the director. The result of the analysis shows that Christine makes two struggles during the search of her son. First, she struggles to against the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) because they find the wrong boy but do not want to admit their mistake. And the first struggle leads Christine to the second struggle that is to stay in mental rehabilitation. She is thrown by the LAPD to mental rehabilitation because she makes the LAPD ashamed by making a pronouncement to the press if they have made a big mistake by finding the wrong boy. Finally, the writer figures out that the result of Christine Collins’s struggle is a failure. She cannot find her son. Instead the newspaper reports that her son is one of the children that are murdered by a serial killer.
