Abstract

In teaching learning process, the teacher might get some problems. The problems faced by teacher in teaching English are divided into two there are linguistic problems and non-linguistic problems. Linguistic problems are the problems which come from the language itself and cause difficulties for people who study it. Besides, non-linguistic problem are the problems that influence the language learning. This study concerns with the linguistic problems faced by teacher in teaching English to young learners at Tri Dharma Kindergarten Probolinggo. The writer conducts this study because she wants to know the teacherÂ’s problems in teaching English and the way to solve the problems. In this study, the writer used descriptive research design. The object of this study was a teacher who teaches English to kindergarten at B class. The instruments used to collect the data were interview and observation. The unstructured interview and non-participant observation were used in this study. The purposes of this study were to find out the linguistic problems faced by teacher and the ways to solve the problems in teaching English to young learners at Tri Dharma Kindergarten. The result of this study indicated that the problems covered linguistic problems. In the linguistic problems, the writer only focused on pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. There were the problems of linguistic such as difficulties in pronouncing some words, difficulties in using correct sentence structure, and limitation of vocabulary. The linguistic problems were caused by the teacher herself. The solution of linguistic problems employed by the teacher were practicing English every day, using dictionary, studying English with her friends, and looking up the English book guide. Teacher who teaches English to kindergarten students need the special skill in teaching, she should study how to teach English well. In addition, she should study English more, and graduate from English department in order to know the basic knowledge of English.
