Abstract

English is an essential language because English is an international language. It means that it is used for communication among people in the world. As an international language, it is necessary for people to learn it. Moreover, by English they can express and share their knowledge and felling with other people around the world. Therefore, English has important role in enhancing our knowledge. There is one the important factor that influences the students' success in teaching learning language is motivation. This study describes the students' motivation and the dominant motivation in English daily conversation program. This study aims to know the students' motivation and the dominant motivation in English daily conversation program. This research used a descriptive research to obtain the information related the students' motivation. The questionnaire was distributed to the students to get the data. The population was the 1st grade students at Gontor 5 and the sample was stratified sampling. The sample was class A (25 students) and B (25 students). The result of this research showed that there are 12 students (24%) got the score of motivation 81-100 (very high motivation). There are 30 students (58%) got the score 61-80 (high motivation). Then, there are 5 students (10%) got the score 41-60 (moderate motivation). The last, there are 3 students (6%) had score 21-40 (low motivation). The mean score of students' motivation was 71.42. It means that, the students' motivation in English daily conversation program was high. Many students to increase their English language influenced by extrinsic motivation, so extrinsic motivation is more dominant than intrinsic motivation on students in English daily conversation program.
