Abstract

Film is almost the same as drama, in which both of them are performed before audiences. Film is a form entertainment that enacts a story by sound and sequence of images giving the illusion of continuous movement. In this study, the writer is interested in analyzing Anna Fitzgerald social conflicts in “My Sister’s Keeper” film. In detail the purposes of this study were (1) to know Ana Fitzgerald’s social conflicts in “My Sister’s Keeper” film and, (2) to know the causes of Ana Fitzgerald’s social conflicts in “My Sister’s Keeper” film. This analysis used a descriptive qualitative research design because it did not use hypothesis and statistical methods. The approach in this study was objective approach. The object of this study was the main character in “My Sister’s Keeper” film. The instruments or the data collections methods used in this study were observation in which the writer acted as non-participant observer and document namely “My Sister’s Keeper” film which was included popular culture document. The result of this analysis showed that the social conflicts faced by Anna Fitzgerald in the “My Sister’s Keeper” film. They were (1) ) Conflict between Ana and her mother in the hospital, which was caused by Sara felt shocked for the coming of suing letter and when she knew that her daughter, Anna sued her by a lawyer, (2) Conflict between Anna and her mother in court, which was caused by her mother felt that Anna lied to her, (3) Conflict between Ana and her parents, which was caused when Anna knew the fact about the effect of transplantation is dangerous for her, (4) Conflict between Anna and her sister Kate Fitzgerald, which was caused by Anna’s curiosity with Kate condition because Kate wanted to commit a suicide and Anna forbade her to do that, and the last (5) Conflict between Ana and her brother Jessie Fitzgerald, which was caused by Jesse told Anna’s secret to the judge in the court. Finally, it can be concluded that social conflict is possible to happen in the real life. Social conflict is the confrontation of social powers. It means that the more powerful groups use their power in order to exploit less power group. So, people can take the lesson from the conflict that they faced.
