Abstract

Team teaching is a new model of teaching to improve the quality of teaching which is done by more than one teacher. It is hoped to motivate students in increasing their achievement in English subject. In this case, team teachers are expected to be able to collaborate, plan, evaluate in teaching learning process and compare cooperative formation to make students comfortable and motivated in the class. So, motivation is needed by students in improving their skill because motivation can increase their activity to master it. Therefore, the researcher wanted to investigate about (1) how is students' motivation taught by team teachers at SMAN 2 Malang and (2) what are the factors that influenced students' motivation taught by team teachers at SMAN 2 Malang. In this study, the researcher applied descriptive quantitative research because the researcher described the phenomena of students' motivation in team teaching implementation and the factors that influenced students' motivation in team teaching implementation. The instruments were non- participant observation and close-ended questionnaire. The population in this study was the third grade students of SMAN 2 Malang consisting 8 classes. The sample was XII IPA-B1 consisted of 34 students taken randomly by using cluster sampling. The result of study showed that students motivation in team teaching implementation was high with 20 students (58.82%) got mean score 56.73. The researcher also found some factors such as reward, incentives, reinforcement, punishment, needs for self-esteem, self-fulfillment, self-determination, beliefs, attribution for success and failure, expectations, maintaining identity through participation in activities or groups and the highest factor that influenced motivation of students in team teaching implementation was engaged participant in learning communities which was represented by 85.2%.
