Abstract

Literature is human expression. Literature gives information concerning human experience which consists of the realities of human problem, feeling, situation, and relationship. By watching or reading literature, people can obtain enjoyment and valuable information related to their life. Film is human expression that reflects human thought, act, behavior, lifestyle, and anything related to human kind. This study was conducted to analyze, the main character’s Frank Goode’s, psychological conflict in “Everybody’s Fine” film. In detail the purposes of this study were (1) to know Frank Goode’s psychological conflict in film and, (2) to know the causes of Frank GoodeÂ’s psychological conflict in film. This study used descriptive qualitative design because it did not use hypothesis and statistical methods. The approach in this study was objective approach. The object of this study was the main character in “Everybody’s Fine” film. The data collection was derived from dialogues and scenes of the film. The result of the analysis showed that the psychological conflicts faced by Frank Goode and their causes in the film. These were (1) Frank felt disappointed with Robert because Robert canceled his coming at the last minute, in fact Frank had well prepared all things they needed for the family reunion,(2) Frank felt disappointed with Rosie and Amy as cause they also cancelled their coming at the last minute,(3) Frank felt worried about David when he was waiting long for David in front of his apartment,(4) Frank felt proud of Little David because of looking at his great creation displayed in an art gallery and Frank was looking at it,(5) Frank felt happy with Rosie because he knew she was happy with her life, (6) Frank felt sad with Robert because he wanted to spend a couple of days together with Robert, but Robert rejected it because he would go to Europe that night,(7) Frank felt annoyed with an Unemployed man because Frank gave money to the unemployed man but he didn’t say thank you, (8) Frank felt anxious with David because he got bad feeling about David in his dream,(9) Frank felt disappointed with Amy because she liked to hide something,(10) Frank felt afraid because he felt that bad condition would happen to him,(11) Frank felt sad with Amy because Amy didn’t tell the truth about her life,(12) Frank felt disappointed with Robert because he knew Robert didn’t go to Europe and even didn’t perform, (13) Frank felt disappointed with Rosie because he knew she lied to him, (14) Frank felt anxious to David because David didn’t give him address and didn’t respect Frank’s explanation,(15) Frank felt sad because he knew David had passed away, (16) Frank regretted about what He had done,(17) Frank felt touched with David’s Painting because Frank when looking at David’s painting and about Frank’s job. Finally, it can be concluded that psychological conflict is possible to happen in every human life. Psychological conflict happens consciously or unconsciously and it depends on the condition itself, such as emotions, rational thinking, thought, and ideas. Psychological conflict can be a dangerous conflict because the condition and rational thinking happen in mind. So, people can take the lesson from the conflict that they face.
