Abstract

There are some literary works which can be elaborated into deep analysis. They are novel, short story, poetry, and drama. Drama is one of the literary works which contains dialogues presented by the actors or actresses on the stage in front of the audience. Film is the development of drama. People can get many benefits from film. Bertie’s struggle to get success is interesting to analyze because everyone has to struggle to overcome every obstacle along the way to success. The objectives of this study were to describe: (1) Bertie’s struggles to get success, (2) the problems faced by Bertie’s to get success, and (3) the result of Bertie’s struggles to get success. This study used a descriptive design because this study tried to analyze the film descriptively with the emphasis on the struggle to get success of the main character. In analyzing this film as an object of the study, the writer used objective approach. The data were collected by watching The King’s Speech film. Then, the data were analyzed based on the classification that refers to struggle to get success on the main character (Bertie). After analyzing the data, it was found that the ways Bertie struggled to get success were: a) He struggled to get success by following the technique given by Sir Blandhine-Bentham to insert seven marbles into Bertie’s mouth and try to read a task b) He tried to read a task which was given by Logue while listening to music and c) He repeated the statement uttered by Logue, even every sentence he tried to do his best for people. The problems faced by Bertie’s to get success were: a) Bertie’s could not stand with the marbles in his mouth, b) Bertie’s was a heavy smoker, but he was prohibited to smoke when he consulted with dr.Logued, and c) He felt hard to pronounce “father” and Other alphabets that Bertie felt hard to pronounce were “a-t-h” . Bertie was finally successful in struggling to become a great orator. King George VI (Bertie) became a symbol of national resistance.
