Abstract

Twitter is popular media for digital native. For the digital native is more closely and intimate. But, it is difficult to understand for digital immigrant. The research was based on the fact that the digital native especially the teenagers usually used alay language in their daily conversation or writing status update on twitter. The researcher wants to know about the perception of digital immigrant toward the language used by digital native. In conducting this study, the writer applied qualitative research as the research design becausethe writer would describe the digital immigrant’s perception toward language used by digital natives’ status update on Twitter and the data are collected in the form of words not in the form of numbers. The writer is act as researcher as instrument to collect the data. Tolls used by the researcher are; document and semi structure interview because she had more freedom to make questions and could improve the questions. The resultof this analysis showed that digital immigrantstend to have negative perception toward the language usedby digital native because is so impolite and that looks from short writing the language. The digital immigrant and the digital native have a gap because someone can know who the owners of status update with just see from the writing. It will show is she/he digital native or digital immigrant just look from the status update.
