Out of 57 spelling errors, 2 (3.51%) students made errors of transposition, 10 (17.54%) students made errors of addition, 26 (45.61%) students made errors of omission and 19 (33.33%) students made errors of substitution. The dominant error of spelling the students made was omission errors (26 (45.61%)). In addition, based on the result of the data analysis from the questionnaire, it was found out that there were four causes of errors: interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer, context of learning and, communication strategies. The research finding also showed that communication strategies got the highest response from the students. This means that the cause of errors of spelling was dominantly caused by students’ laziness in memorizing the vocabulary given by the teacher. In addition, they were reluctant to ask the teacher or their friends whenever they did not know or forgot the proper English spelling. Finally, they were also reluctant to look up their dictionary
