Abstract

A method is defined as a method or procedure used to achieve certain goals. Methods of teaching are ways of presenting learning materials to students for achieving the goals set. Thus, one of the skills that teachers play an important role in choosing the method of teaching is a skill. Autism is a condition that is almost certainly caused by a brain abnormality. Therefore, autism is not a disease but complex developmental problem with a lack of basic social skill, feedback of communication, repressive of gesture without any purpose and lack of interest. The method to improve skills and social skills to autistic children used ABA or Applied Behavior Analysis. The method to teaching English for autism children are Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Sign Language. Considering the statement above the purpose of this study were to know what the method of teaching English, what the problems of applying the method, and what the solutions of applying the method for autism children. The design of this study was qualitative research with a teacher at Specific Education “Cahaya Ananda” Tulungagung as research subject. In collecting data the writer used observation non participants, structured interview, and document analysis. In conclusion the teaching method were applied by the teacher are Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Sign Language, the problems of applying the method is student got angry, and the solutions of applying the method is the teacher would make them patient. This research concludes the method of teaching English used by the teacher, found the problems of applying the method and the solutions of applying the method.
