Abstract

English is very compatible in each and every field, especially in internet subject, because in many internet programs and applications the language used is mostly English. Therefore, the mastery of English vocabulary, especially in English vocabulary for internet, is very important for almost all people in this technology era. This study aims to find out whether there is correlation between English vocabulary mastery and internet subject mastery of the training students of “PATI” (Pelatihan Aplikasi Teknologi Informasi) 2013-2014 in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research is a quantitative correlation study. The research was conducted at University of Muhammadiyah Malang on 07-12 October 2013. The subjects were new students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang 2013/2014 in the first semester who joined the training of “PATI” (Pelatihan Aplikasi Teknologi Informasi) 2013-2014 in the third round. The instruments used in this study is an English vocabulary test and internet subject test in the form of multiple choice test given three times in a week. The results showed that the highest score of English vocabulary test was 96.67 and the lowest score was 57.78. The mean score of English vocabulary test was 80.43. It means the students’ English vocabulary mastery is good. The highest score of internet test was 91.78 and the lowest score was 60.92. The mean score of internet test was 83.41. It means the students’ internet subject mastery is good. The result of Pearson Product Moment by SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Science), was that Pearson correlation coefficient between English vocabulary mastery score and internet subject mastery score, was .554 > .5. It shows that English vocabulary mastery correlates positively with the internet subject mastery. So, it can be assumed that if the students have good mastery of English vocabulary, they also have good mastery of internet subject. On the contrary, if the students have low mastery in English vocabulary, they also have low mastery in internet subject.
