Abstract

Literature is human’s expression. It always concerns with human life. Novel is a part of human expression. People can take the lesson from the novel itself. The researcher chooses “The Hunger Games” novel because it contains of Katniss Everdeen’s psychological conflicts that has a good message, struggling her life even in a worst situation. In this thesis, the researcher focuses on Katniss EverdeenÂ’s psychological conflicts. Katniss Everdeen is the main character in “The Hunger Games” novel. More specifically, this deals with the purpose of the study to describe the kinds of psychological conflict are found in Katniss Everdeen, to know the impact of psychological conflict in Katniss Everdeen, and to describe the solution of Katniss Everdeen’s psychological conflict. This study used descriptive qualitative method, because this study described about Katniss Everdeen’s psychological conflict. The researcher used objective approach in doing the analysis because the researcher did not need to study about the author’s life. The object of this study was Katniss Everdeen’s psychological conflict. In this study, the researcher tried to analyze Katniss Eveerdeen’s psychological conflict. The data were obtained from some dialogues and events that represent psychological conflict of Katniss Everdeen. The writer only focused on Katniss Everdeen’s psychological conflict. The psychological conflict she did on the purpose for: being the winner and staying alive as a promise to her younger sister in order to reunite with her family. There was some psychological conflict that Katniss Everdeen decided to join in the Hunger Games, they were: (1) she replaced her sister to join in the hunger games, (2) she becomes deppresed because her friends ”Rue” was killed by other participants, and (3) she got a help from her fiends Peeta. The result of Katniss Everdeen’s psychological conflict was that she became the winner of the Hunger Games. She succeeded when the game was over since she and her district mate were still alive.
