Abstract

Language is an important tool of communication. We can have a relationship with others through language. Language and society as a unity. We cannot separate language from society. On the other hand, some language may have bad influences for society and it is called as bad language. Bad language is defined as words or terms which has negative meaning. In this study, the writer analyzed the bad language used in “The King’s Speech”film. The writer chose this film because it had good moral lessons. The author tried to deliver the message of this story for adults in order to get some information from this film. However, it also contained of bad language which refers to negative meaning. The writer investigated the total of bad language used, the kinds of bad language and also the meaning of each bad langauge that used in the film. To answer the research problems, the writer used descriptive qualitative design because there was no treatment as in experiental research. the writer took the data from “ The King’s Speech” film as the object of study. This was chosen because this film has some of bad languages. In this research, the analysis was focused on the bad language which is limited to the bad language used by the main character “Bertie”. The writer used objective approach in analyzing because the writer did not need to study the author’s life, the background of the works and the background of society but just analysing the work itself. The result of this study showed that 10 bad languages used in“ The King’s Speech” film. There were 2 kinds of bad language used in “ The King’sSpeech” film; 3 taboos and 7 swearing words. The example of the taboo were bugger, ass, fornication. Then, the examples of swearing found in the film were bloody, bastard, damn, bugger off, shit, fuck, bloody mess. There were 10 meanings of bad language related to the context of the story in the film. Most of the bad language that were found in this study was to express bad attitude or negative meaning.
