Abstract

Classroom language is used in the classroom to create a realistic communicative situation in which the children find themselves. Besides, using the simple classroom language can help the young learner to avoid the boredom. However, teaching English for young learner needs some aspects to succeed the teaching learning process. The most influenced aspect is the teacher. In teaching English for young learner, the teacher is the key in order to make the students understand the lesson. The main objective of this study is to find out What are classroom languages, the practice teachersÂ’ reasons in using classroom language in teaching EYL course of English Department at UMM. This study used descriptive qualitative research design. Here, the researcher applied a descriptive method because the writer would like to describe the kinds of classroom language used by the pre-service teachers in EYL class. In this case, the researcher used observation and interview as the materials to collect the data. The data were obtained from videos in eight meetings observations. The videos were the activities of teaching learning processs in 2nd grade of EYL. Based on the result analysis, it was found that there were many classroom languages used by the pre-service teachers in teaching English for young learner which were classified on simple instruction, language of spontaneous situation, and social interaction. The findings of this study showed that the pre-service teachers preferred to use simple instruction when they taught English for young learner because they thought that simple instruction was easier to understand. The result of this study, the data showed that all of the pre-service teachers used classroom language to teach EYL which consist of kinds of classroom languages. They are simple instruction, language of spontaneous situation, and social interaction. Based on the interview, The pre-service teachers use classroom language in order to make the students easier to understand the lesson. Besides, the pre-service teachers preferred to use simple instruction in teaching EYL because they thought that simple instruction is the easiest to understand.
