Abstract

Worksheet is needed by the students to study the material and do assignment. Without worksheet, they do not have guideline to study in the school. In some schools, textbooks are taken for granted. Teachers prefer to use worksheet than textbook. They use textbook only for supplementary material. Therefore a research on this topic is needed. Using worksheet has become “culture” in our education. Many subjects taught since elementary level until high level use worksheet. Most of teachers assess students’ development in teaching learning process by using it. The quality of the reading question items can be analyzed by knowing the content validity of the question items. means that the items of the test must cover all of the instructional objectives of the lesson plan and be relevant with the domain that will be measured. The purpose of the study was to analyze the content validity of the question items of Reading Skill in Unit II of worksheet “PRESTASI” which was learned by the ninth graders students of SMPN 10, Probolinggo. The descriptive design was used to obtain information about the content validity of students’ worksheet “PRESTASI”. In this study, the researcher used the worksheet itself as the object in analyzing the data. The procedure of collecting the data was done by using some steps as follows: (1) reading the material in students’ worksheet, (2) analyzing the appropriateness between the question items and the material, (3) evaluating the result using checklist, (4) scoring the data by describing the result, (5) making conclusion. The result of analyzing the data was in the form of descriptive design by using the checklist of content validity. Related to the main problem of the study the appropriateness between the question items and text needs an improvement. Especially, in the question items, the question items have to have the implicit questions to make the students think deeply and read the text more. And also the result of following sub question, (a) all formats can be applied for reading instructions activities for the students; (b) Based on the checklist, the researcher believes that the instructions are too easy for the ninth graders. And there is no variety instruction, either; (c) In this reading chapter II, the theme is quite interesting for the students because it can add their knowledge.
