Abstract

Writing is difficult thing either in our native language or in another language. Therefore, the teacher is required to be able to set suitable technique which can motivate and attract the studentsÂ’ interest in writing activity. To do so, the teacher could use news reflection as the material. News reflection can help students to build up their writing skill. News reflection can also develop their idea about news that they have read. Based on the explanation above, the statements of the problem was how the implementation of news reflection and the studentsÂ’ responses toward the implementation of news reflection. This study is a descriptive qualitative research; therefore the data are analyzed qualitatively. The writer conducted the observation throughout the teaching-learning processes in the first grade of the senior high school students of SMA Negeri I Mojokerto. Observation checklist was used to know the entire activities and procedure steps used by the English teacher. Besides, the questionnaire was used to know the studentsÂ’ responses toward the implementation of news reflection. The result shows that news reflection can motivate the students to write and it can also develop their writing skill. However, the interesting and easy technique may also make the students more interested and focused on the learning material. The writer suggests that the selection of teaching technique be done carefully and easy to understand for the students.
