Abstract

Literature is the class of writings distinguished for beauty of style or expression, as novel, poetry, essay, or history, in distinction from scientific composition and works which contain positive knowledge, but some students think that studying literature is difficult. It is because they do not know the advantages of studying literature and also they have lack of interest in literature. Studying literature gives many advantages, such as we can learn about culture, community, language, etc of a certain country. This study used descriptive qualitative. The research object of this research was the movie entitled "Our Family Wedding" by Rick Famuyiwa. The whole data of this research were taken from dialogues, utterances, and events in the movie. In this study, the writer used documentation as the instrument of gaining data that he watched the movie many times, so he took some notes from the movie. From the analysis about the inequalities of African-Mexican wedding culture, the writer found that there are many cultural studies about African and Mexican, especially in African-Mexican wedding culture. The inequalities of African-Mexican wedding culture were about the tradition, wedding attire, major religious beliefs, food and music and also special wedding tradition; Jumping the broom from Africa and The Lasso/El Lazzo from Mexico. The effect of the inequalities was the broken of the main characters relationship and also their family. The solution taken by the main characters is by discussing about the wedding ceremony, they are combining African and Mexican wedding culture in their wedding ceremony.
