Abstract

Indonesia has many literary works, such as novel, short story, poetry and drama. Film is one of literary works. Film is almost the same as drama. Film is one kind of drama, but it is not presented on the stage in front of audience like drama. Film is a series of moving pictures with sound that people can watch at the cinema or at home. In this study, the writer is interested in analyzing Physical Conflicts by the main character "Jeremy Melton" in Dylan Sellers film "Valentine". In detail the purposes of in this study were (1) to know physical conflicts by the main character "Jeremy Melton" in Dylan Sellers film "Valentine", (2) to explain the causes of physical conflicts by the main character "Jeremy Melton" in Dylan Sellers film "Valentine". This analysis used a descriptive qualitative research design, because it did not use hypothesis and statistical methods. The approach in this study was objective approach. The object of this study was the main character in Dylan Sellers film "Valentine". The collecting data in this study are movie scenes and movie scripts of Valentine's film. The result of this data analysis showed that the physical conflicts faced by Jeremy Melton in Valentine's film. They were (1) conflict between Jeremy and Shelley, it was caused by Shelley refused him badly in front of their friends when he asked her to dance. She was killed by Jeremy with a knife. (2) conflict between Jeremy and Lily, it was caused by Lily embarrased him badly in front of their friends when he asked her to dance. She was killed by Jeremy with arrows. (3) conflict between Jeremy and Gary, it was caused by Gary was teased Kate at her apartment. He was killed by Jeremy with a hot iron pressed to his face. (4) conflict between Jeremy and Campbell, it was caused by Campbell who was insulting him at Valentine's school party. He was killed by Jeremy with an axe. (5) conflict between Jeremy and Ruthie, it was caused by Jeremy feared if Ruthie would tell his crimes to others, because she saw him was carrying the corpse of a servant in the billiard room. She was killed by Jeremy with a piece of glass. (6) confict between Jeremy and Paige, it was caused by Paige refused him badly in front of their friends when he asked her to dance. She was killed by Jeremy with an electric drill. (7) conflict between Jeremy and Dorothy, it was caused by Jeremy had been slandered was accused of sexual assault againts her. She was killed by Jeremy with a gun. Finally, it can be concluded that the data describe well about violences found on this physical conflicts. Physical conflict it possible to happen in the real life. Physical conflict is the confrontation of social interactions. It means that the more powerful groups use their power to exploit less power groups. So, people can take the lesson from the conflict that they faced in their life.
