Abstract

As one of the English skills, writing has an important role in teaching and learning process. By writing, we can not only explain, argue, criticize but also express our feeling. Besides, the students can express their ideas or opinions to other people. One of the problems is related to the effectiveness of teacherÂ’s response on the students writing product. Internet is a center of information that has multi fields. One of the internet facilities is weblog. However, internet does not always give good effect but bad effect as well to the users. The teacher should be able to give good instructions to the students in downloading or browsing the writing materials through internet as sources in supporting their learning activity. Such problems also happened in ESP Writing class. So, the researcher is interested to analyze internet online sources used by the teachers of ESP to know the reason and its advantages and disadvantages in ESP writing class at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Based on the statement above, the statements of the problem are what internet online sources used by teacher at ESP writing class in Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of UMM and the advantages and disadvantages of its implementation. This study is aimed to identify the kinds of internet online sources used by the teacher, and to describe the advantages and disadvantages of its sources in the teaching learning activities. In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative design. The subject of this study was the teacher who teaches ESP writing in faculty of teacher training and education of UMM. The instruments used to collect the data were unstructured interview and observation. The purposes of this study were to find kinds of internet online sources, advantages and disadvantages of internet online sources used by teacher in ESP writing class at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of UMM. The result of this study indicated that kinds of internet online sources were face book, twitter, and web blog. There were three advantages of internet online sources were made the students found authentic material, could improve their motivation on learning, and did not cut off connection between the teacher and students. And there were two disadvantages of internet online sources were the signal was so powerless and the students must have brought modems, and if the students did not know about internet, so it needed long time to finish the class the teacher must have given much time.
