Abstract

Vocabulary is the most important skill of learning foreign language, it is necessary for teacher to apply various strategies that make students more interested in teaching learning process by using media. One of instructional media that can be used in teaching vocabulary is flash card. In this study, the researcher tried to investigate the use of flash card in teaching vocabulary for autistic students. The purposes of this study were: (1) to describe the used of flash card in teaching vocabulary to the autistic students, (2) to know the advantages of teaching vocabulary using flash card to the autistic students, (3) to find out the disadvantages of teaching vocabulary using flash card to the autistic students. The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this study was the two teachers in Cinta Ananda Malang. Meanwhile, the instrument used was observation and interview. The data was analyzed descriptively. The result of this study showed that using flash card in teaching vocabulary for autistic students is the teacher used flash card in teaching vocabulary with showed the flash cards one by one and said the English. After the teachers showed all of cards, they tried to ask the students about the English of animal randomly. The teachers got some problems when they used flash card in teaching vocabulary. The problems were Students have difficult to concentrate, difficult to comprehend the meaning of the picture and difficult to pronounce the vocabularies. The advantages of using flash card in teaching vocabulary were students enthusiastically when learned vocabulary using flash card, students also interested in flash card so they did not feel tired and bored when learned vocabulary, students could memorize new vocabulary easily. Meanwhile the disadvantages of using flash card in teaching vocabulary were not all of picture can be visualized, only some pictures can be visualized. Students have the difficulties in differentiating the same object with different visualization.
