Abstract

Some problems of language are everywhere. One of them is English misuse. Hearing the English misuse repeatedly at the wrong time and in the wrong place, make it seems like the usage was correct. Misuse is defined as a word which is grammatically not correct that is used in wrong way. The misuses which are occurred are some omission, addition, lexicon, misuse of articles, nouns, pronouns, auxiliaries, verb, adverb, adjective, prepositions, and conjunctions. Futhermore there are eight kinds of parts of speech. They are noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection. The English misuse also happend in Indonesian Idol program in which the judges and the host employed misuse. This study was aimed at getting answer of the research problems, namely (1) what are the English misuses found in Indonesian Idol program on RCTI? (2) What kinds of English misuse on Indonesian Idol program on RCTI based on its parts of speech? The writer used descriptive qualitative research design to describe the English misuses and to know the kinds of parts of speech that were misused by the judges and the host of "Indonesian Idol program" on RCTI. The subjects of this study were the three judges and one host of the program. The instrument that was used in this study was documentation. There were two results of the study based on the statement of the problems. First, this study showed that there were 32 English misuses that were found in this study included the addition words, lexicons and parts of speech used by the judges and the host in Indonesian Idol program on RCTI. Second, The result of the study showed that there were three kinds of parts of speech that misused. They were 12 data misuses of nouns, 17 misuses of verbs, 2 misuses of adjective, 1 misuse of adverb. In conclusion, the English misuse might be happened because of their carelessness and limited knowledge about English. Some of the celebrities are not aware about their misuse and it made the English misuse happened repeatedly.
