Novel is one form of literary works that often try to reflect human life by portraying the mental and inner mind of the characters. More specifically, this study deals with the purposes: To know Shane's struggles to save the Starrett's farm and to know the effects of Shane's struggle toward the Starrett's family. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. The writer used objective approach in doing the analysis because the writer did not need to study the author's life, the background of the work, and the background of society, but she just analyzed the work itself. The object of the study was the novel "Shane" which is written by Jack Schaefer. The data were quoted from some paragraphs or dialogues in the novel "Shane" that represent the Shane's struggles. The result of the study shows Shane's struggles to save the Starrett's farm are; 1) Shane becomes a farmhand; he succeeds in helping to fix the Starrett's farm. 2) Shane gets into a fistfight with Fletcher's men. He must fight against Fletcher and defeats Fletcher and his men.
