Abstract

Today, English is very important subject that must be provided for students to develop their skill. By applying some techniques in teaching learning English vocabulary, it is hoped that students will be interested in learning English vocabulary. This study focuses on technique of teaching vocabulary used by teacher at SD Arrohmah Malang The purposes of this study are: (1) to know what kinds of techniques used by the teacher in teaching vocabulary, (2) to know why the teacher used those technique. This study was a descriptive research because the researcher worked in a natural setting, it concerned with the process rather than outcomes and it described the facts of the subject. The subject in this research was the teacher who was teaching English vocabulary at SD Arrohmah Malang. The instruments in this study were interview to the English teacher at SD Arrohmah Malang and observation of the teaching learning activity in classroom. The findings showed that the teacher applied seven techniques in teaching and learning English vocabulary; (1) Using visual technique, (2) Using translation technique, (3) Using sing a song technique, (4) Using dialogue technique, (5) Using games technique, (6) Using realia technique, (7) Using mime and action technique. Then, the teacher reasons of using those techniques were: (1) Using visual technique: The teacher wants to know the studentsÂ’ experience in pronouncing the word, if any mistake the teacher give the right pronunciation. (2) Using translation technique: The teacher wants to help the students know the meaning of word. (3) Using game technique: The teacher wants to make the students more active in the class. (4) Using sing a song technique: The teacher wants to make the students more interesting about English especially vocabulary. (5) Using dialogue technique: The teacher wants to make the students have experience to speak. (6) Using realia technique: By realia technique, the students can remember the name of thing in English for a long time. (7) Using mime and action technique: The teacher wants to make the students understand well.
