Abstract
In learning English, the learners must be able to speak, listen, read and write. It is very important because person can be called bilingual when they master four skill that involve speaking, listening, reading and writing. And it is known, one of language aspect is vocabulary, because language is arranged from sentences and it consists of words. So, every people should have many vocabularies for communicating, it will also help them in arranging sentences. This study focused on the media used in teaching vocabulary on first grade at Permata Jingga Global elementary school. Media is everything that can be used for transferring and delivering messages from source to create conducive situation and condition which help learners to do teaching learning process effectively. The purpose of this study were (1) to describe the media used in teaching vocabulary on first grade at Anak Saleh elementary school in Malang (2) to explain How the teacher applies the media used in teaching vocabulary on first grade at Anak Saleh elementary school in Malang (3.) to know the advantages and disadvantages in teaching vocabulary on first grade at Anak Saleh elementary school in Malang. The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this study was the English teacher who taught English on first grade at Permata Jingga Global elementary school in Malang. Moreover, in collecting the data, the researcher used two instruments. The instruments were observation and interview. The data was analyzed descriptively. Based on the research findings, the teacher used six media in teaching vocabulary on first grade at global permata jingga elementary school in Malang. They were picture file, real object, tape recorder, film strips, LCD projector and flash card. The application and the instruction of using media is very easy and simple, teacher explained slowly and said one by one the vocabulary and asked the students to repeat what she said. Media give advantages and disadvantages in teaching learning process. The advantages of media are the students more interesting and fun in learning, give high motivation, enjoyable, and make the students more understand and memorize the new vocabularies while the disadvantages of media depends what the media used.
