Abstract

Background: Malassezia fungus is a species of lipophilic. Malassezia can give many clinical features including Pityriasis Versicolor. Infection pythyriasis versicolor has a prevalence of 50% in countries that are climate tropical.The antifungal drugs used are azole. Excessive and inappropriate use of antifungal drugs can trigger increased resistance. Other alternative treatments using mango flesh because it contains ingredients that have antifungal effects.
Objective: To test the effectiveness of mango flesh (Mangifera indica L.) extraction on Malassezia furfur growth.
Methods: This study uses the True experiment design method with Post-test only group design. Using Malassezia Furfur fungus samples and solid and liquid dilution methods with concentrations of mango fruit peel 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, 1.5%, 0.78%, 0.39% 0% Data analysis using kruskal wallis and post-hoc (mann-whitney) tests.
Results: The results of the research showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration of mango flesh extract (Mangifera indica L.) at concentration 50%. while the minimal fungicidal concentration showed that the higher the concentration, the more inhibited the growth of the fungus. The Kruskal Wallis test showed (p=0.004) that the substances contained in mango flesh extract had an influence on the growth of the Malassezia furfur fungus. The post hoc test do not have a big influence on fungal growth and are less effective in inhibiting the growth of the Malassezia furfur fungus.
Conclusion: Mango flesh extract (Manggifera Indica L.) is less effective in inhibiting the growth of Malassezia furfur fungus.
