Abstract

In every interaction, people usually choose different codes in different situation. They may choose a particular code or variety because it makes them easier to discuss a particular topic such as using code mixing.Code mixing is a mixture of words, phrases and clauses of several languages. In this study, "Sarah Sechan" program becomes the object of the study because it is a talk show program in which the presenter often uses code mixing in the conversation and gives many tips and inspiration for the audience. This study was aimed to know the code mixing found in "Sarah Sechan" program on Net Television channel and to describe kinds of code mixing found in "Sarah Sechan" program on NET TV channel. The study used descriptive qualitative research design because it described the phenomena of code mixing in "Sarah Sechan" program and the data were presented in description, not in numbers. The document was collected by downloading video talk show program of NET TV from Youtube then saving as the data. This study used document analysis as the approach. After analyzing the data, it was found that there were 94 code mixing used by the presenter and the guest stars in "Sarah Sechan" program broadcasted on 27th of May, 4th and 23rd of June 2014 on NET TV Channel. The code mixing used were categorized into two kinds of code mixing, namely: situational code mixing and conversational code mixing. The findings were 12 situational code mixing and 82 conversational code mixing. It could be concluded that the presenter and the guest stars in "Sarah Sechan" program on NET TV Channel used code mixing either in the beginning, middle, or end of the sentence. They used two languages, Indonesian and English together in their utterances. The presenter and the guest stars were able to mix their languages in the conversation.
