Abstract

Novel is one of literary works which draws human real life through the words. Through the story of novel, people can reflect their life and the problems. Fear is human emotion that elicit when people facing danger. In this study, Jimmy Doyle's fear in David Klass's novel "Danger Zone" is interesting to analyze. In detail, the writer wants to dig out the kinds, the causes and the way to solve Jimmy DoyleÂ’s fear. In this study, descriptive qualitative research is used because it does not use numerical data. The approach applied in this study is psychological approach. The object of this study is Jimmy Doyle as the main character in "Danger Zone" novel. The data are collected from the events, dialogues, sentences and paragraph which related to the problems of study, they are kinds, causes, and how to solve Jimmy's fear. The result of this study showed that Jimmy Doyle's fear are hesitating his basketball skill, arrested by the police, and fear of death. Those fear are categorized into internal and external fear. While, they are three causes of Jimmy Doyle'sfear, they are lack of confidence, getting trouble with police, trauma of his father death, and the terror of radical neo-NAZIgroup. Then, there are four ways to solve Jimmy Doyle's fear. They are consulting to Dr. Sutherland and talking to his mother, explaining to the police, and relaxing himself.
