Abstract

English has a big power in many aspects of life. In this era of telecommunication and technology, mastery of the English language should not be limited to the four skills, namely speaking, listening, reading and writing. English as the most important foreign language in Indonesia should be studied in a broader context. Related with the expansion of these skills, the ability to translate is much needed and it needs more attention. Job training is a training to provide skills required in a particular job related to the ability demands of the trainees. Job Training is implemented in Translation II to provide skills for the students. The purposes of this study are to know how the implementation of Job Training in A Class of Translation II and what are the problems faced by the translation students. This study used descriptive qualitative research because the researcher intended to describe the implementation of Job Training in Class of Translation II seventh semester Academic Year 2013/2014 at English Department of University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The subject of this research were the translation students who were trained by using Job Training in one semester. This study also used interview, documentation and observation as data collection technique. First the writer observed the job training implementation in class, second doing interview with students and third collected the document related with the job training implementation. The results showed that there were four steps in Job Training implementation and six problems faced by the translation students. The four steps in Job Training implementation are a) preparation, b) implementation, c) monitoring and d) evaluation. And the six problems faced by translation students are a) lack of references, b) little number of customer, c) lack of coordination, d) groupÂ’s time management, e) capability and f) studentÂ’s time management.
