Abstract

Teaching technique is chosen activities in implementation a particular trick or stratagem to facilitate and help studentsÂ’ to achieve the aim of teaching learning process. It is one of the important aspects for the teacher to solve some problems that students face, especially in learning reading. By applying some techniques in teaching learning process, it is hoped that student will be interested and easy in understanding the teaching material in learning reading. This study was intended to explain the implementation of survey, question, read, recite, and review (SQ3R) at SMP negeri 05 Bangkalan and to know students response toward this technique. This study used a descriptive qualitative because the writer worked in natural setting, it concerned with the process rather than the outcomes and it described the facts of the subject. The subject in this study was the teacher who taught reading in class F of the eight years students of SMP Negeri 05 Bangkalan. The study found that the teacher applied the SQ3R technique which involved several steps, that were, 1) Surveying by showing a picture, 2) Questioning by giving some questions related to the topic and picture in oral and written questions, 3) Reading by giving a text and asking to read carefully to find the answer from the question, 4) Reciting by re-reading again the text and discussing about the meaning of the text, 5) Reviewing by telling the information from the text and also answered the question based on the text. The implementation of SQ3R technique gave positive respond for the students. The respond of the student was open-ended or student-initiated respond in which they were being active in teaching learning process and showed their participation in interaction with the teacher.
