The use of media in teaching writing is important for both the students and the teachers. Media motivate the students to think widely and explore their ideas through writing. Media also help the teachers in conveying the information in teaching writing. Therefore, this study was focused on the kinds of teaching media used by the teachers in teaching writing, the problems that the teacher faced in using the teaching media in teaching writing, and the way the English teachers solved the problems in teaching writing at MTs Hasanuddin Pulorejo, Dawarblandong, Mojokerto. In this study, the descriptive qualitative design was used to conduct the research. The subjects of this study were two English teachers. To get the data, two kinds of instruments were used: interview guide and observation checklist. Therefore, the writer interviewed the English teachers and observed the classroom activities. The result of this study showed that the English teachers used three kinds of media, namely visual media like whiteboard, pictures, cards, and the LCD projector. Audio media like the laptop connected with the speakers. Audiovisual media like the laptop connected with the LCD projector and speakers. In using the media in teaching writing, the teachers faced some problems. The first problem was the teachersÂ’ inability to operate the electronic media. To cope with that problem, they usually asked other teachers to operate the LCD projector, laptop and speakers. The second problem was that the media reduced time for the teaching and learning process. The teacher coped with this problem by preparing the media before the lesson began so that it could be used directly in the class. The third problem was related to the absence of language laboratory in the school and the limited number of the LCD projector. It was solved by providing media by themselves like the speakers and laptop in the class so that the class could function as a language laboratory. On the other hand, the number of the LCD projector in this school was limited. The teachers coped with this problem by using the LCD projector in turns so that the students could learn the lesson more effectively.
