Abstract

In Indonesian Elementary School, English is given to the young learners with some methods of teaching. One of the methods is by using games. Games are useful in teaching English to young learners in teaching English to young learners since games are fun for them Researcher focuses on the game used by the English teacher, the problems faced by the English teacher in using game and the way how the teacher solves the problems in using game. Researcher focuses on the English teacher point of view who teaches in fourth grade at SDN Sumbersekar 01 Malang. Researcher takes the observation based on the teacherÂ’s activities. In this study the researcher uses descriptive qualitative design, and the data are collected from observation, interview and documentation. This study conducted at SDN Sumbersekar 01 Malang. The results of this study, the teacher used two games in teaching English to student. The games were puzzle and guessing game. In applying those games, the teacher faced two problems. The first problem is that it was difficult to manage the time. The second problem was related to the space of the classroom especially room. To solve the first problem, she prepared the game like media before the class in order not to waste the time, made specific time limit for students played the game, and used the trick and signal to make the students pay attention. To make the class larger, she arranged some of the desks by moving them into the back row. Therefore, the teacher needs more space and more time to manage the class learning becomes more active and runs well. The conclusions, there are some problems which occurred because of the use of the games. Not only arise from teacher, the student also is one of these problems. The teacher and students should cooperate well with each other in the learning process in the classroom become more effective and more efficient. For the suggestion, the teacher should to apply various games in teaching English in the class and also the teacher should be more discipline in organizing the class during games in order to minimize the studentsÂ’ noisy.
