Abstract

Media is everything of tool which can bring the message from the sources to the receivers or from the teachers to the students. The teaching media can stimulate thought, sense, attention, and interest of student to conduct teaching learning activity. As a result, it is important for conducting it in teaching learning process. The studentsÂ’ response is something that they can say or do to express their feeling by giving answer, replies, and reaction. The studentsÂ’ response is related to the teaching media because the media of teaching can stimulate the students to give some responses to the materials. The purposes of this study are to know what kinds of media for teaching EYL, how the teachers implement it and how the studentsÂ’ responses toward that media. This study used descriptive qualitative research because the researcher intended to describe and gain information behavior and situation of the studentsÂ’ responses toward the media which is used by the teachers in EYL practice teaching for 5th graders at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The subjects of this research were 20 persons as EYL teachers of 5th grade and 29 young learners. This study also used interview and observation as data collection technique. The result of this study showed that there were 7 types of media which were used by the EYLÂ’ teachers of 5th grade. That media were power point, pictures, flash card, real object, video, word cards, and prezi. The teachers implemented it by showing one by one in pre-teaching for brainstorming and whilst teaching for delivering the materials clearly. They also involved studentsÂ’ five of sense when implemented that media. Based on the research finding, the students gave positive responses toward that media, they showed open-ended response toward that teaching media by expressing their feeling and own ideas with their enthusiastic and participation by asking and giving it comment.
