Abstract

Conversational implicature is one of the linguistic studies especially part of pragmatic terms. It is the language phenomena that very useful to be known by conversant, because by knowing the conversational implicature can help us to understand what is implied by our partner in the conversation easier in order to make the communication run smoothly and to minimize the misunderstanding in communication. The researcher has chosen conversation of host and guests on “Sarah Sechan” talk show to be analyzed, because it can represent the implicature in their conversation. The conversational implicature divided in to two kinds, and the meaning of it usually different from what was said. Therefore, this research concern on what are kinds and what are the meanings of conversational implicature spoken by host and guests on “Sarah Sechan” talk show? The aims of this research are to know kinds and to know the meanings of conversational spoken by host and guests on “Sarah Sechan” talk show. In this study, the research design applied was descriptive qualitative research, because the purposed was to understand the way the host and guests on “Sarah Sechan” talk show spoke the implicature in their conversation. The primary instrument of this research was researcher herself. Tool that was used to conduct this research was document, beside observation as a technique. The object of this research was took by downloaded fives episodes of “Sarah Sechan” talk show in youtube.com that was posted by official of “Sarah Sechan” talk show and the researcher made transcripts of those five episodes as a document. The transcript processed through of identifications, classifications, and analysis based on the theory about conversational implicature. The result of this study showed that, whether host and guests on “Sarah Sechan” talk show spoke two kinds of conversational implicature in their utterances or conversations. The two kinds of conversational implicatures were generalized and particularized conversational implicature. Besides, the utterances or conversations spoken were also belonging to the two types of meaning they were: connotative meaning, and contextual meaning. From the two types of meaning showed that one of most dominant meaning found was connotative meaning.
