Abstract

Literature is an imaginative words that express the feelings and experiences of human aspect. Reading literature is really enjoyable, comforting but a little bit difficult to understand because the concepts of the content is packed by an imaginative words. The purpose of this study to know the main character, Jane Eyre’s suffering, to know the causes of Jane Eyre’s suffering, to describe Jane Eyre’s ways to solve her suffering in the novel “Jane Eyre”. In conducting this study, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative research as the research design because it explained about the phenomena which had already existed in the novel. The researcher used objective approach because in analyzing this novel the writer did not study the author’s life, author’s feeling and emotion, the idea of society or educational background. But, the attention of the writer focused on analyzing the author’s work. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that there were kinds of four Jane Eyre’s suffering in the novel. They were (1) Jane was afraid in the red room (2) Jane was feeling sadness (3) Jane was feeling broken heart because of Mr. Rochester lie on her, (4) Jane got physical attack by John Reed. Then, there were four causes of Jane Eyre’s suffering. They are (1) Jane had fight to John, (2) Jane lost her best friend, Helen Burns (3) Jane felt had been lied by Mr. Rochester, (4) John disturb Jane’s activity. Afterwards, there were four the ways Jane solves her suffering. They were (1) Jane asked for a help (2) Jane Eyre moving to another place, (3) Jane leave the Thornfield Hall, (4) Jane tried to avoid of John attack and mocked on him.
