Abstract

Rumination is repeated thinking as an individual's response to pressure. Rumination in depression symptoms is the state of continuous negative thoughts, thinking about what should not have happened, and not thinking about solutions to problems and the worst chances in the future. This study aims to test group Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in reducing rumination in adolescents with depressive symptoms. The research design was a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design for 14 students aged 14 to 16 who were separated into two groups, i.e. the experimental group (n=7) and the control group (n=7). The instruments used were the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and the Ruminative Thought Style Questionnaire (RTSQ). The data analysis technique used was the Wilcoxon test to determine differences in pretest and posttest results in each group and the Mann-Whitney test to determine differences in results after intervention between groups. The results of the study showed that group MBCT was able to reduce rumination in adolescents with depressive symptoms as shown by the Wilcoxon test results, experimental group showed Z=-2.371 with p=0.018<0.05 and control group showed Z=-0.018 with p=0.914>0.05. The rumination posttest score based on the Mann-Whitney test (Z=-2.747, p=0.006<0.05), so the hypothesis in this study was accepted.
