Abstract

Reading is one of the important skills in learning besides listening, speaking, and writting. The fundamental goal of any reading is knowing enough science and knowing the language (comphrehendinng and understanding). Moreover, by reading and learning the book readers can get so many experiences. For example, by reading the readers could learn and know about cultures, other characters of human being. One of literary works that can express these values is novel. The reader can take a lot of experiences, knowledge, enjoyment and also entertainment from the novel. This analysis focus on the missions and murders in the ‘’Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince’’ Novel. The writer chose this novel because he was very interested in analyzing it. This thesis is focused to answer the statements of problems. Those are: Who did the mission in the novel “Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince”, What are the motives of the mission in the novel “Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince”, Who did the murder in the novel “Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince”, What are the motives of the murder in the novel “Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince”. In analyzing this novel, the writer used qualitative research because he did not use hypothesis and statistical methods the writer used descriptive research design because he directly found the information concerning the status of phenomena in the story. Dealing with the study the writer used objective approach. The objects of the study was some paragraphs, dialogues, or events related to the missions and murder in J.K Rowling’s novel ‘’Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince’’. The result of the study shows that: 1) the character who did the missions is Harry Potter. 2) There were three motives of the missions that have been done by Harry Potter. 3) There were two characters that have been done the murder. 4) There were two motives of the murder that have been done by Voldemort to attain immortality and Professor Snape to avoid Malfoy mistakes. Finally, by analyzing this novel, the writer can suggest that this study can be used as a model for the students in analyzing a novel and a novel can be used as a material in language teaching and learning
