Abstract

News basically is a story or statement about latest event produced by press. Many people needed news for information facility. But the news not only gave fact, but also changed attitude, opinion, or behavior of general people of something. In President Election campaign 2009, media, especially Jawa Pos, placed political news as headline. Jawa Pos also gave special site or political news with “Menuju Kekuasaan (Through the Power)” column. Political news offered by Jawa Pos was not only for information, but also gave influence so that people changed attitude, opinion, or behavior in political participation. Statement of problems in the research were: (1) How huge political news attack at Jawa Pos in President Election in June 2nd to July 6th 2009, especially for Jawa Pos customer in Polowijen village household-group (RW) 1-3 Blimbing sub-district Malang? (2) How high the people participation in politic, especially Jawa Pos customer in Polowijen subdistrict household-group (RW) 1-3 Blimbing sub-district Malang? (3) What influence caused by political news attack at Jawa Pos in President Election campaign June 2nd to July 6th 2009, especially in Jawa Pos customer at Polowijen village household (RW) group Blimbing sub-district Malang? The theory based on hypodermic Needle theory, where the theory assumed that mass media had powerful authority, so that audience could not avoid. In the research, the hypodermic needle was mass media. Here, it was Jawa Pos Newspaper which injected message in form of political news so that audiences, those were Jawa Pos customer could not avoid political news attack in Jawa Pos room. The research type was explanatory research. The opulation was Jawa Pos customer in Polowijen village RW 1-3, Blimbing sub-district of Malang. While samples from the research were 93 respondents found by survey research based, that was research taking samples from population, then used questionnaire as data collection tool (primary data). Sample technique taken used total sampling. Data analysis used was regression to test independent variables, they were news attack (X), dependent variable (Y) people participation, and determination coefficient to measure the influence of X variable to Y variable. According to the research, there found that correlation coefficient was 0,644, means that there was relation between free variable, that was political news attack at Jawa Pos with dependent variable which variable was people’s participation in politic. According to F test, there found F count for 64.510 point in mistake rate 5% there found F table with 3,94 value. It means that F count > F table, so that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted, which mean that political news attack in Jawa Pos had significant influence to people participation in politic. Through determination equation, there found the influence of independent variable, that was political news attack in Jawa Pos to dependent variable, that was pople participation in politic, were 0,415 mean that 41,5% was influence of political news in mawa Pos. Rest of them 58,5% political participation influenced by the other variables which were not discuss in the research. Correlation calculation showed influence showed when political news attack increased, people’s participation in politic was also increased.
