Abstract

PT Aneka Banusakti is a company engaged in the field of Foundry and Machinery (casting and machining). PT ABS produces a wide range cruster size for equipment, elements and roller conveyor. The main products that produced, among others: Cylinder liner motor. Cylinder liner for mitsubishi cars, daihatsu, kubota diesel, brake liner for honda. suzuki, yamaha. Based on historical data of the company during the period of October 2008 8 month until May 2009 happened defect in the product tends to rise in the motor cylinder liner machining process between 9.66% to 16.30% of the total product in production. Product defect level that is greater than 3% resulted PT ABS should replace the product with product defects in accordance with the specifications. Therefore, product quality improvement projects Motorcycle Cylinder liner to be implemented urgently and in select as research objects. The main objective of this research is to refine the process to reduce defects that occur on the production floor. This study applied the approach to six sigma DMAIC cycle with a single. Define stage to identify problems, measure to determine the issues that affect the quality, analyze diagram contains about fish bone to help pinpoint the main problems and improve the cause of the defect is about FMEA (failure mode and effect analysis) to assist in determining the alternative proposals that would improve provided. This study will only focus on the improvement of CTQ defects in the FMEA method. There is one type of defects that are critical to the quality of the defect types Chill, namely visual casting too shiny and bumpy due to chisel is not strong. Although this type of defect can be identified during the process of machining, but the actual mode of failure modes that cause the appearance of these defects occur in the pouring process that led to the proposal given the improvements in the improve phase of adding inoculant to the liquid metal before pouring process is done. By reducing the critical defect is expected to be able to improve the quality of products produced on the production floor.
