Abstract

Even though swearing is an English term showing a particular type of linguistic behavior; it is often used in studies of other languages to show a linguistic. It is remarkably similar and seen to emanate from a common word of emotive utterance types. The use of swearing words is one of the example of the phenomena. Swearing words are naturally part of our language and they are undoubtedly one of the most efficient ways to express the feeling intentionally or unintentionally in difficult situations. This study aims to identify the swearing words and understand the types of them. Also, it is to find out the function of swearing words used by Sujiwotejo on Twitter. This research was a qualitative. The objects of this study were taken from 44 data the utterances containing swearing words used by Sujiwotejo on Twitter. To collect the data, the researcher used document analysis since the research was obtained from the tweet of SujiwotejoÂ’s twitter. The researcher gains three findings. Firstly, finding shows that there are ten swearing words namely, Cuk (22 times) Jancuk (2 times), Jancuker (5 times), Ndasmu (5 times), Raimu (2 times), Asu (3 times) Silit (1 times), Matamu (1 times), Tuhan (2 times), and Goblok (1 times). Secondly, there are five used by Sujiwotejo on Twitter. They are Religion type (4.54%), Anatomy (20.45%), Stupidity (2.27%), Animal (6.87%), and General (65.96%). Meanwhile, the last finding is the swearing word function. There are eight functions of swearing word. They are to insult, to express surprise, to show annoyance, to show dislike, to emphasize, to mock, to deny, to regret, and to show anger.
