Abstract

The purpose in this research is to find out whether or not using STAD (Student Teams-Achievement Divisions) method improves the studentsÂ’ writing ability at second grade at Mts Al Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang. The researcher used experimental design. In this case, the experimental group was given a treatment using STAD (Student Teams-Achievement Divisions) method and the control group was treated without STAD. The population research was the second graders at Mts Al Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang. The instrument to collect the data was a writing test. The data of the study were analyzed using ANOVA. The result of ANOVA computation showed that the value of F-ratio was 5.93 at the level of significance was .001, with the degree of freedom of 78; then, F-table value was 2.72. Thus, the data showed that the value of F-ratio was greater than that of F-table. Therefore, the hypothesis stating that teaching writing using STAD (Student Teams-Achievement Divisions) method improves the studentsÂ’ writing ability was accepted. This means that teaching writing using STAD improves the second grade studentsÂ’ writing ability.
