Abstract

Literature is an expression of life. Literature is writing that has certain property, or certain properties of literariness. Literature can be said as a creative writing by an author with aesthetic or artistic values of literature, for instance, poetry, drama, prose, and novel. Literature is the reflection of human's life. It means that literature can teach about how the real life happens to the readers. That is the reason why the writer analyzed literature especially novel entitled An Analysis of Ashley Patterson's Multiple Personality Disorder Found In Sidney Sheldon's Novel "Tell Me Your Dreams". The problems discussed in this study were how Ashley Patterson's personality as Tony Prescott, how Ashley Patterson's personality as Alette Peters, what the causes of Ashley Patterson having multiple personality disorder, what the effect of Ashley Patterson having multiple personality disorder. This study applied a descriptive research design; the approach that is used is the objective approach. The object of this study is the whole events in the form of paragraph, sentences, dialogue also related to the conflict faced by main character. The result of this study showed that when Ashley Patterson as Toni Prescott was harsh, bold, and full of rage, but when she as Allete Peters, she was soft, art enthusiasts, and sensitive. The major cause why Ashley Patterson got multiple personality disorder was that father raped her every night when she was a child, the she told her mother about her father's attitude her mother did not believe and she was angry to Ashley. The effect of Ashley Patterson having multiple personality disorder were that she felt someone followed her, lost her job, lost her time, wanted suicide, and be a murderer.
