Abstract

The purposes of this study are (1) to know the techniques used by the teacher in teaching young learner in Al Kautsar kindergarten school Pasuruan; (2) to describe the techniques used by teacher in teaching English at Al Kautsar kindergarten Pasuruan; and (3) to find out the studentÂ’s responses toward the technique used by the English teacher in Al Kautsar kindergarten school Pasuruan. The design of this study is descriptive qualitative study. The writer used the teacher of language class in Al kautsar kindergarten Pasuruan as the subjects of this study since they have a good qualification in teaching English and then applied certain technique in English teaching. The instrument used to gather the data were observation guidelines and Interview guide. The data in this research were collected during the teaching learning activities in the classroom. The researcher joining four time classroom teaching to observe the techniques, how the teacher implemented the teaching technique and students responses toward the teaching technique in learning English. Then, interview the teacher with questions concerning with the technique and how to implement teaching techniques. Third was drawing a conclusion from observation and interview data. The finding of this study shows that there are ten teaching techniques used by the teacher, they were; 1) song, 2) moving about, 3) question and answer, 4) look and say, 5) games, 6) instruction, 7) matching in writing, 8) role play, 9) straight copying in writing, and 10) story telling. In implementing those teaching technique, the teacher applied them based on the teaching objectives. The students responses toward the teaching techniques involved eight responses they were; specific response, choral response, open ended or students initiated, silence, confusion (work oriented) response, laughter, uses of English and nonverbal response. The best teaching techniques based on the observation in the classroom with the best response from the students are games and song. To help them easy to remember the vocabulary teacher can use look and say teaching technique. The teacher should be creative and can stimulate the students to learn.
