Abstract

This research is aimed to determine and describe the errors found in students’ theses abstract of Master Education Policy and Development in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research is conducted based on the fact that there were many errors found students’ theses abstract of Master Education Policy and Development in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research used a qualitative research design. A qualitative research design is used to determine and describe the errors and the frequency of errors found in studentsÂ’ theses abstract of Master Education Policy and Development in University of Muhammadiyah Malang that is limited in graduate year 2014 and 2015. The research instrument used is documents of studentsÂ’ theses abstract themselves. The population of this research was 107 abstracts. In selecting the samples, the researcher chose 16 abstracts by conducting simple random sampling. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Surface Strategy Taxonomy. Then, the researcher did some steps such as identifying the errors, classifying the errors, and calculating the errors to determine the frequency of errors. The result of data analysis showed that there were four types of errors found in students’ theses abstract. There were misformation errors, omission errors, addition errors, and misordering errors. Meanwhile, the frequency of errors found in students theses abstract showed that the frequency of misformation errors was (37.7%), omission errors was (52.4%), addition errors was (5.7%), and misordering errors was (4.2%). Furthermore, the highest frequency of errors was omission errors whereas the lowest frequency error was misordering errors.
